Anima Mundi International

Awed by Filipino folklore and superstition, JOE used the concept of the Anting-anting or Philippine amulet in The Ring, his entry to the Anima Mundi International Art Festival, in Venice, Italy, themed “Rituals” in 2017, which was held in Venice Italy. Combining amulets, that encircle a human skull, the work is an interpretation of the existing Filipino belief in anting-anting’s magical powers to provide its wearer with invincibility, protection or the edge to win in battles.
