Nationalistic Monuments
The Office of the Secretary General presents “Nationalistic Monuments” an art exhibition featuring works of national importance by JOE DATUIN, the Filipino “Visual Olympian” at the House of Representatives in its South Wing Lobby on May 27, 2019, Monday at 2:00 in the afternoon.
JOE bagged the country’s “first gold” in the Olympics by winning Grand Prize in the International Olympic Committee’s Sport and Art Contest (Sculpture Category) held in Lausanne Switzerland during the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
NATIONALISTIC MONUMENTS
The exhibition presents art pieces that have brought pride to the Filipino people and played as catalyst to social change in the country. It will complement a monumental artwork to be installed in June at the House of Representatives grounds by the Office of the Secretary General with Honorable House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
The exhibition, which is curated by Mary Ann Venturina Bulanadi of the University of Santo Tomas is composed of scale models of monumental works installed in public spaces; sculptural trophies; and pieces exhibited in international Biennales and collective exhibitions in Europe and North America. A curation of works created for the upliftment of the Fiipino spirit – the showcase is an expression of oneness with esteemed Philippine legislators in their mandate to create laws for modernity and social change.
